Usage areas of Sodium sulfite

Properties: Easily soluble in water. Its aqueous solutions are alkaline, and sodium sulfate forms rapidly when left in air. Sodium sulfite is a reducing, bleaching and sulfidizing agent and acts as a preservative. If treated with strong acids, sulfur dioxide is released. Elemental sulfur dissolves in aqueous solutions of sodium sulfide with the formation of sodium thiosulfate. The concentration of sodium sulfide in solutions of various concentrations is given in the table below.
